My Puppy Wants A Photo Oop With Lance Henriksen
Mood:  silly
Topic: Puppy

Nik:  Dr. Doolittle, you don't understand.  My puppy does not want to be in the Photo Oop with me and Actor Lance Henriksen.  My puppy wants a picture with Actor Lance Henriksen without me in the picture.

Dr. Doolittle:   Why do you think your puppy doesn't want you in the picture?

Nik:  Because he challenged me to a game of chess.

Dr. Doolittle:  And.......

Nik:  He said most wins out of three games gets the ticket.

Dr. Doolittle:  Well, he is not serious.  Besides, how is he going to get to the convention?

Nik:  He is threatening to call the humane society.

Animals Like Actor Lance Henriksen Too - What
Mood:  silly
Topic: Animals Like Lance!!!!!!

Puppy:  If I win I get the Photo Oop ticket for Actor Lance Henriksen.

Nik:  You are a puppy.  A dog.  You can't go to the convention and you can't have a Photo Oop with Lance.

Puppy:  Why not?  Are you discriminating against animals especially puppies?

Nik:  You do not understand.  This convention is for people.  You know, human beings.

Puppy:  So if I win what do I get?

Nik:  Show me where you put my Photo Oop ticket?  I am not going to discuss this with you any further.  You are an animal.  I don't make the rules.  No animals are allowed.

Puppy:  I know some dogs are allowed you are selfish and/or cheap.

Nik:  Okay, "seeing eye dogs" may be allowed.  However, I am not blind.

Puppy:  That is your problem!!!!!

Cat:  I told you guys I can't play with you now I am watching Actor Lance Henriksen on DVD.

Dog #1:  Why don't you re-consider?

Dog #2:  Besides you keep watching the same DVD over and over again.

Cat:  What is your point?

Dog #2:  What difference does it make whether you watch the same DVD now versus later?

Cat:  Exactly my point.  What difference does it make whether I play with you now or later after I watch my Lance DVD?

Dog #1:  For starters, it is daylight now.  In just a little while it will be dark.

Cat:  That is your problem.  The lights are on in my house.  Go home.

There is Nothing Grade B About Lance Henriksen
Mood:  irritated
Topic: Stop!!!!!!!!!
About Me Lance

When it comes to Actor/Artist Lance Henriksen there is nothing grade "B" about Lance.  I am tired of all the typecasting.  Why is everything from machines to human beings typecast? It makes me sick.

Well far as I am concerned I do not recognize such things such as "A List Actors or movies " versus "B List Actors or movies" especially when the grading is based on a movie project's budget.  We brand and categorized everything and everybody.  Lance Henriksen is neither an “A” nor "B" anything.

Lance is just a "dam" good actor and artist that can stand his own on the "silver screen" with the greatest of all actors alive.

What does it take for things to change?  After over 25 years of acting how can anybody say that Actor Lance Henriksen is a "B Actor " and all the other stupid adjectives.

Actor Lance Henriksen is an "Actor/Artist" and that is his profession.  However, the heart of a person is not solely based on their occupation.

My dream came true this year when I met this "man with a heart more precious than silver, gold, or platinum" twice.   And if society wants to   label Lance as a grade "B" actor go ahead because I know that grade does not indicate anything about the person I met.  By Rather Tenacious Contributing Associate of La Femme Nikita07 and Associates and Friend-Girl of Actor Lance Henriksen

Lance Henriksen in Gunfighter's Moon - Goodie but Oldie
Mood:  happy
Topic: Movie is a Classic!!!!!

I am still trying to catch up on my DVD watching of Actor Lance Henriksen's movies.  I have my favorite movies on DVD that I repeatedly watch; however, I am not ready to disclose them yet except for Gunfighter's Moon. If you are a Lance Henriksen Super Fan you will have a great time watching this movie on DVD.  Lance shows his incredible range of talent and has a pretty good supporting cast.  Also Lance is the leading man.

Lance is so cool acting in this movie.  I am not going to give away the storyline at this time.  However, I suggest that you add this one to your collection.  It was hard to find this movie on DVD and it was new.  More to come!!!!!!   By Lafemmenikita07

Lance Henricksen shines in his performance as an outlaw who comes back into town to help his one and only true love. He finds out that he is the father of a 15-year-old girl, and decides to save the day for her and her mother. Kay Lenz who was in the movie house and married to David Cassidy for a while in real life plays the love interest. Excellent movie that tugs at your heart.”

This is a great film if you happen to be a Lance Henriksen enthusiast. It's the story of Frank Morgan, a legendary gunfighter. Morgan's past catches up with him when his old flame asks for his help, and he meets his daughter for the first time.  This is a highly entertaining film.

To see Lance kick major ass as a gunfighter and have the starring role is all you need. As always he has the best dialogue, probably lines Lance came up with himself.”

"Review Gunfighter’s Moon by Cold Fusion

I've pontificated at length elsewhere (in my review for Purgatory, to be precise) on some of the archetypal nature of the Western genre. In that discussion, I mostly went over the positive aspects of the way in which the Western had become a genre divorced from its historical setting and grew into a language for the expression of universal, larger-than-life archetypes.
Unfortunately, given the whole topsy-turvy nature of this world of ours, positives are not always positives. Archetypes are good when handled properly; when fumbled, we call them "clichés," and they become a sign of lazy, unambitious thinking rather than an insight into the human psyche. _
Part of the problem is, naturally, one of the Western's strengths. (Oh, what a world of irony.) It's a tightly structured genre, perhaps more limited in its elements than any other (at least, any other recognized as a full cinematic genre and given its own shelf at the video store). The historic and geographic setting is both tightly confined, and moreover, they're stylized almost to the point of being unrecognizable for their real-world counterparts. (A lot of people, on visiting Texas, are surprised that it doesn't look like the Texas that John Wayne rode through -- mainly because "Texas" was usually either Southern California or Utah.) The characters are similarly limited, with the focus usually being on gunfighters, forced to make their own law for good or evil in a land without adequate law enforcement; the supporting characters are those who would normally interact with such characters -- namely, bartenders, downtrodden ranchers, and cheap women. In fact, sometimes it seems like the entire typical western town is composed of the saloon, the cathouse, and the barber shop (where the barber doubles as the part-time sheriff or mayor, naturally).
What's the problem here? Well, aside from the fact that there are only so many stories to be told with these people in these locales without becoming hopelessly repetitive, the setting and situations are getting further and further removed with each passing generation of filmmakers. Modern dramas and actioners can be informed by real-world events; science fiction, at least technically, thrives on innovation. But the Western is locked into a finite set of stock elements, about which the current generation of directors and writers learns about solely through the extant cinematic library. It is, in a word, incestuous.
For a moment, I thought I was going to see a Mexican wrestling movie.
That's not to say that good movies can no longer be made with these worked-over elements, but each of the recent successes only proves the point: A Western still has to fully reference the established tropes -- touch all the bases, as it were -- and knowingly play off the "canon." And the audience is expected to be fully aware of the standard elements being referenced. Imagine some poor foreign chap trying to enjoy The Quick and the Dead without realizing the importance of the shootout in the climactic scene of 90% of Westerns, or wondering what all the hoopla was about Unforgiven without knowing how familiar the idea of "the legendary gunfighter who can't retire" is (and how associated Clint Eastwood had been with Westerns throughout his career).
Sooner or later, I have to start discussing Gunfighter's Moon, which is fully as referential to the standard tropes as either of the examples used above, but not nearly as successful. In fact, Gunfighter's Moon also uses "the legendary gunfighter who can't retire" as its mainspring, and it's a no-brainer that this one got the green light thanks to the success of Unforgiven. But that's not the only famous Western that gets "homaged" here. It seems as if writer/director Larry Ferguson, when given the opportunity to make a Western, decided to make all of them.
Lance Henriksen is perfect as Frank Morgan, legendary quickdraw -- now old, skinny, tired, and still tough enough to chew through your arm. Tough enough that, when two young turks from Kansas track him down to a small Mexican town in Colorado just to challenge him, he has no qualms about blowing one away and shooting the other in the leg when his attempts at dissuading them fail. (Regarding that omnipresent urge to find and fight the top gunslinger in these movies: I'm gratified that stupid macho obsessions are not merely a product of a more modern era, and a little disappointed that the terminally stupid and belligerent have no analogous method of removing themselves from the gene pool these days.) Such is life at the top. _

All this scene needs is a red-and-white checkered picnic blanket...
That life, such as it is, is interrupted by a telegram that Morgan's woman Rosa (Yareli Arizmendi) tries to keep concealed from him; but he's far too canny for that. His past has come calling, and he leaves that morning on his horse, with the dog that isn't his but follows him everywhere anyway (don't all gunfighters have one of those?) tagging along.
Now, this next complaint may seem over-finicky, but it's more important than it looks at first blush. Or rather, than it sounds at first blush, because the nit I'm picking at here is the music. Our opening theme was done entirely with keyboards -- passable, until we got to the digital version of "muted guitar," which had "CASIO" stamped all over it. But here, as Morgan takes a five-day montage to Red Pine, Wyoming, we're treated to overly-valiant, fanfarish bombast, more appropriate for the Cartwrights on the ride than for our over-the-hill outlaw. Had I known that this was going to be a three-minute montage, I would've turned down the sound on the TV and thrown a Ry Cooder soundtrack CD on the stereo.
Eventually he arrives at what's supposed to be Wyoming, although it looks suspiciously like the environs of Vancouver. (Hmm. The Colorado village is shown as a dusty, arid place, whereas Wyoming is moist and verdant. I wonder if Ferguson had ever visited either locale.) He's immediately recognized by one of the town's old-timers (must've had the trading card), and reported to the sheriff. Unfortunately, the sheriff isn't really the sheriff, as the real sheriff was killed in a botched bank robbery the week before; the temporary sheriff is storekeeper Jordan Yarnell (David McIlwraith), in charge of keeping Morris (Dave Ward), their single prisoner from the robbery, in jail until his hanging next week. Yarnell's not happy to have the wildcard Morgan in town, especially because he has no idea why Morgan's there, unless it's to spring Morris.
"Hey babe, can I homestead your frontier?"
It doesn't take us nearly so long to figure things out, though, since Morgan's very obviously got some history with Yarnell's wife Linda (Kay Lenz), and takes a keen interest in the Yarnells' seventeen-year-old daughter Kristen (Nikki Deloach). So it doesn't come as a surprise when Linda visits Morgna privately and reveals that yes, Kristen is actually his daughter, and no, neither Jordan nor Kristen know; Linda has told them that her husband died a decorated hero in the Civil War, rather than raise Kristen knowing her father was a notorious outlaw. It's Linda who called Morgan here, because Morris' cousin Walt Shannon (Brent Stait) is on his way to town to free his kin, and there's no way that a storekeeper with a badge can take on a professional goon like Shannon. How she expected to get Morgan's help while keeping her dark little secret from Jordan and Kristen remains a mystery.
There are admittedly many nifty ideas in here, but they're spaced out from each other so neatly that it seems like several different versions of the movies. For ten minutes, after Morgan takes compassion on a downtrodden Mexican servant in the saloon (James Victor), there's much bandying of the idea that "a man on his knees is only half a man." I kept expecting them to grow what they planted there, and have Morgan either end up in contrition in a church or shot to his knees by an opponent; but apparently Ferguson got bored with that particular subtext after hammering on it for ten minutes, as it's never referenced again. Even more maddening, the story we're promised in the opening scene -- that of a gunfighter trying to run from his own reputation and get out of the "business" -- isn't the story we're told; once Morgan gets that telegram, he's gunfighter through and through for the rest of the story. He may regret not having lived with Linda and Kristen as husband and father, but that's not the same as trying to step out from beneath the shadow of a reputation that's outgrown him.
Ooh -- SOMEBODY went to film school...
Now, as you've no doubt gathered, one doesn't head into a Western in this day and age and expect originality. But unlike, say, No Escape, which is almost as derivative but manages to blend its borrowings smoothly, Gunfighter's Moon is lumpy in its borrowings. I get the impression that Ferguson watched a different classic Western each night while writing the script, and woke up the next day determined to immortalize the previous night's viewings in his own movie. I'll not list for you all of the many echoes of previous movies; I don't have the expertise to label them all anyway. Suffice it to say that, while the first half leans heavily on themes from Unforgiven, the second takes its cues directly from High Noon, as Yarnell finds that the town is willing to release the bank robber rather than have Shannon and his posse shoot up the town, and only Yarnell's willing to stand firm. Of course, Morgan's in town to help him, but Yarnell doesn't know that -- and anyway, once Morgan gets shot in the back by the brother of the Kansas kid he waxed way back right after the opening credits, it's doubtful whether he'll be able to help anybody.
The worst part of the story's lumpy consistency is the way in which it continually reminds you very clearly of the movies from which it's taking its inspiration, all of which were definitely superior to this one. Maybe the best audience for this one is the unschooled audience, after all -- viewers who won't see it as a Frankensteinian patchwork of favorite scenes from a dozen other movies, and maybe find a way to appreciate it as a discrete work."

"Nik" aka Lafemmenikita07's Contributing Associate Libby

We would like to introduce to "Libby" one of our Contributing Associates and Super Fan of Actor/Artist Lance Henriksen.

The name "Libby" is the web handle of the Contributing Associate.  Real names are not used in this blogsite.

Libby is an avid fan of Actor Lance Henriksen and extremely loyal and supportive of our genre of Sci-fi, Fantasy, Animation, Horror, etc.

Those of you that know Libby will remember her.

Listed below are some memory joggers that may remind fans of Libby.

We know Actor Lance Henriksen would remember Libby.

You see Libby loves or enjoys taking pictures with Lance with a big bear hug.  Every opportunity Libby had at Monster Mania 5, she would seek out Lance for a photo opportunity.  However, Libby is no obsessed fan.  Libby is an harmless Super Fan.  In addition at Fangoria in Burbank, California, Lance asked Libby about her father.

As indicated above, Libby attended 2006 Monster Mania 5 in Cherry Hill, New Jersey and 2006 Fangoria Horror Convention in Burbank, California.  Libby was in Burbank, California on June 2, 2006 when Adam of Creation Entertainment and Tony of Fangoria gave an extremely well deserved Lifetime Achievement award to Actor Lance Henriksen.

Libby also attended the Celebrity Bash later that night and sat at a table near the front of the stage and left side of the room.

  • Libby sat next to Lance's agent/manager Steve C.
  • Libby took a picture of Lance's Lifetime Achievement while it was on the table in front of Steve C.

  • Libby and "Tony the Soprano" had a picture taken together by Rather Tenacious at Fangoria 2006 Horror Convention, June 2, 2006, at the Celebrity bash for Lance in Burbank, California.

  • Libby took a picture of Rather Tenacious and Lance with his Lifetime Achievement Award received from Creation Entertainment and Fangoria.

Super Fans Celebrate Lance Henriksen's 20th Year Anniversary
Mood:  special
Topic: By the Fans From the Fans
We can't imagine it; however it is here.  October 2006 is the 20th Year Anniversary of Actor Lance Henriksen's visit into the "silver screens" as Bishop the Android in the most memorable film and franchise - Aliens.  We will celebrate the 20th Anniversary by providing the scoop on what the actors and actresses of that great film by Director James Cameron have done for 20 years. We started with Actor Lance Henriksen.  Now let's go to (then) child actress Carrie Henn.  Actress Carrie Henn portrayed the character "Newt".  Newt caputured the heart of "Lt. Ellen Ripley" portrayed by actress Sigourney Weaver and almost stole the spotlight.

More to come!!!!!!!

Super Fan States Actor Lance Henriksen Will Always Be Remembered For Role As Bishop
Mood:  happy
Topic: A Star for A Star!

It is hard to believe that this is the 20th anniversary of Actor Lance Henriksen’s performance as the android "Bishop" in the highly acclaimed "Aliens".

"Aliens" was the second installment of the Alien Movie Franchise.  In addition, it was one of the rare instances where a sequel was better than the original or first movie.  Another movie with that type of record was from the Terminator Franchise.  It is not consequence that Director James Cameron directed both films.

Director James Cameron also ensured Lance Henriksen got the role as "Bishop" and the rest is history.  Lance and James are long time friends including Bill Paxton.  I am glad to see that their friendship survived in such a "cut throat” industry where entertainers are often coerced into doing things that they did not want to do.

Prior to Lance Henrisken's performance, androids or robots appeared on the "silver screen" as stiff, lifeless, boring, and emotionless mega brains.  Actor Lance Henriksen showed a more lifeful, intelligent android/robot, and one with a sense of humor.  Just about everybody true to the genre of Sci-Fi remembers that famous line - I may be synthetic but I'm not stupid.  And that knife scene with Actor Bill Paxton rocks!!!!!!

The second movie of the Alien franchise has a cult-like following.  Young adults that were 5 years old or less when the Aliens hit the "silver screen" knows about the Aliens movie and Actor Lance Henriksen.  And Lance has been going and going non-stop.  Lance is a true actor and artist that has truly embraced his craft and enjoys "feeding" the hefty the appetites of the many fans of the genres of Sci-Fi, Fantasy, Animation, Horror, and Drama.  Lance is also funny.  Watch Jennifer 8 to see a side of Lance’s comedic side.  He dances and laughs with his actress wife in the Jennifer 8  and “shoots the breeze” with John played by Andy Garcia.  I really enjoyed the scene where Lance (Character Freddie Ross) asked Actor Andy Garcia (Charcter John) whether he thinks the blind girl, Helena, played by Actress Uma Thurman would want an old dog like him (Garcia).

'Aliens': 20 years later, mother of all alien flicks still has bite

"Chuck Vinch
The Army Times
Sept. 25, 2006 12:00 AM

Twenty years ago, Sigourney Weaver sent her career into hyperdrive as steely Lt. Ellen Ripley, humanity's longest-suffering crusader against the bloodthirsty critters known simply as "Aliens."

When the second chapter in this now-famous quadrilogy was released 20 years ago in the summer of 1986, fans were unsure how it would stand up next to the classic 1979 original, which featured one of the most unsettling and indelible scenes in screen history - John Hurt giving birth, sort of, to an Alien.

Turns out "Aliens" is the rare sequel that surpasses its progenitor, in such glorious style that it has become a giant of the sci-fi/action/adventure genre - a rocket ride through the dark side of our souls powered by awesome visual effects, a razor-sharp cast, tart 'n' tangy dialogue and a frenetic pace set by writer-director James Cameron of "Titanic" fame.
advertisement

Part of the film's appeal lies in its interesting mix of genres and themes.

On the surface, it's a sci-fi and war flick. But it also tweaks corporate malfeasance, satirizes the yuppie mentality, delves into the eternal battle of the sexes and riffs on the very essence of what it means to be human.

And the most unusual aspect: Beneath all the lead-slinging action, it's really a tender tale of motherhood, embodied by two females doing what's natural - protecting their young. One of them just happens to be a slimy, 15-foot-tall insectoid with deadly claws, a razor-sharp tail and concentrated acid for blood.

For anyone who has ever served in the military, much of the fun derives from the Colonial Marines, the "very tough hombres" with whom Ripley returns to the infamous Planet LV-426 when the human colony there falls silent.

The futuristic weaponry this space faring strike force packs can level worlds, yet the grunts wielding it are familiar:

• The fresh-scrubbed 2nd Lt. Gorman (William Hope), getting his first taste of combat action

• Gunnery Sgt. Apone (Al Matthews), the cigar-chomping, nail-spitting topkick

• The cool and respected Cpl. Hicks (Michael Biehn), and

• The boastful but cowardly Pvt. Hudson (Bill Paxton), who finds his courage in the heat of battle.

Cameron delights in having this crew show that no matter how technology evolves, some parts of military life are likely to endure forever - such as the time-honored tradition of griping about lousy field chow.

There's much tight-knit interplay among the cast members, who also include the android - uh, "artificial person" - Bishop (B-movie icon Lance Henriksen), company toadie Burke (Paul Reiser) and, later, young Newt (played with a fine mix of fear and fortitude by Carrie Henn, an Air Force brat whose dad was based in England, where the film was shot).

Once the setup is out of the way and the Marines arrive at the seemingly deserted colony, the film accelerates into one long rush punctuated by wild action and lots of sharp, ironic lines.

As the film roars along, the relationship between Ripley and Newt emerges as a central theme with deep emotional resonance. Oddly, a scene early in the film that gives new worlds of meaning to this crucial theme was stripped from the original theatrical release to trim two lousy minutes from the run time.

The scene comes just after Ripley has been rescued from hypersleep. Burke informs her that her daughter, only 10 when Ripley left 57 years before, has been dead for two years. "I promised her I'd be home for her 11th birthday," Ripley sobs.

It's no wonder she and Newt later bond like glue; Ripley is not about to fail this surrogate daughter as she did her own child. Fortunately, this scene has been restored to the video and DVD versions of the film.
On DVD
"Alien Quadrilogy," 2003, 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment, Rated R, $63.98.

Released in December 2003, this mammoth box set - nine DVDs with more than 60 hours of material - is almost as big as an Alien Queen and twice as bad.

The films are on four discs: remastered versions of the original theatrical releases of "Alien," "Aliens," "Alien3" and "Alien Resurrection," along with alternate versions of each - Ridley Scott's director's cut of "Alien," and expanded special editions of the other three films, all with deleted scenes restored.

Each film disc has a companion supplemental disc with an awesome array of special features about developing the stories, crafting the production, creating the special effects and casting the roles.

Sigourney Weaver's original screen test for "Alien"? It's here. Conceptual art portfolios of the unique creatures created by artist H.R. Giger? Ditto. Full-length audio commentary by the directors, artists and actors? Extra deleted scenes? Huge still-photo archives? Affirmative.

To top it off, there's a ninth disc with still more documentary features and all 28 theater and TV trailers for the four films.

"Alien Quadrilogy" is so jam-packed with slimy, acid-soaked goodness that it'll be a long time before you have to say, "Game over, man! Game over!"

Who's Watching Your back? - Lance Henriksen
Mood:  happy
Topic: Caring is Beautiful!!!!!!

More and More public figures especially entertainers whether an actor, actress, and/or a public figure, has someone that cares for them and is "watching their back."  The latest trend lately regarding actors and actresses attending public events is that they often have their publiclist and/or agent/manager with them.  The person that watches Actor Lance Henriksen's back is his Agent and Manager Steve C.

Steve C., Lance Henriksen's Agent and Manager

However, what Lance and Steve doesn't know is that both of them have a whole lot of Super Fans "watching their back".  In addition to Steve C., Lance has a lot of Super Fans "watching his back" while he travels and while making public appearances.  Genuine "Super Fans" would do whatever necessary to preserve life (their own) and Actor Lance Henriksen.  They are loyal to the genre of Sci-Fi, Fantasy, Anime, and Horror and are not fanatics.  They just have their favorite actors and/or actresses. So when Lance travels he has more people "watching his back" then he knows.  You know the "good book" mentions that there is no greater love than the love of another that will lay down their life for you (not literally). Caring is so beautiful!!!!!!  By Lafemmenikita07

The Sucess Of A Well Prepared Speaker is to Know Your Audience - Actor/Artist Lance Henriksen Does

Topic: You Need Super Fans!!!!!

Actor/Artist Lance Henriksen is kickin it with many of his Super Fans at a Celebrity Bash in celebration of Lance receiving a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Burbank Hilton in Burbank, California June 2006 and Monster Mania 5 in Cherry Hill, New Jersey May 2006.  This is just one of the many things that Lance does well and why Lance has such an almost "cult" like following of loyal fans.

Super Fans "Rather Tenacious" and "Tony-Soprano" at Fangoria Horror Convention's Celebrity Bash for Actor Lance Henriksen, Burbank, California, June 2006

Only a Super Fan could get Lance to smile like this and did. Super Fans can make any of their admired stars feel special because Super Fans are special.  I read that Lance really does not see himself as a "star" ; however, for lack of a better word I am sure Lance won't be bothered by my usage in this blog.  Do you know what a Super Fan is?

Super fans are fans that have the ability to influence and/or persuade other fans to see, reject, and/or ignore movies and films that do not meet their expectations and/or not true to the genre of horror, science fiction, sci-fi, fantasy, and most importantly comics.  Super Fans know the history of the characters and whether what was done in a scene is accurate and/or logical based on the book or comic and even the prior movie of a sequel.  Super Fans are opinioned and brutally honest and extremely wise with their economic dollar.  However, if you can win the Super Fan over you may have a lifetime fan and free positive publicity.  Super Fans exist all around us and in various occupations.  One comment thread is that they primarily use the Internet to share their "likes and/or dislikes" about actors/actresses, movies and film plots and whether other fans should watch the movie at the expensive theater or wait for DVD or cable.  Super Fans have been around a long time.  However, while in a time when mostly everybody is on some kind of budget referring to Super Fans for entertainment recommendations is as commonplace as a fork and spoon.  Super Fans are Bloggers, Blogmasters, Webmasters, etc.  The word of their message crosses the United States into other countries where our American movies also distributed.  To get a glimpse of the amount of Super Fans consider the amount of people that will attend the conventions this year such as: Fangoria, Monster Mania, San Diego Comic Con, Anime, WonderCon, Film Festivals and other venues.  Those that ignore the Super Fans debate over what went wrong when their project performs less than expected and/or the feedback are very critical.

Henriksen - A Face SciFi Can’t Get Enough Of

lanceLance Henriksen is one of maybe a handful of actors that scifi and genre related fans would prefer to see in a SF film, even over and above a blockbuster big-budget actor. Another actor who fits that prestigious SF category would be Michael Ironside. There is just that, what the industry calls “SOMETHING,” that Henriksen has that makes him a joy to watch in any role, but especially scifi and horror.

Lance has starred in his share of huge movie and TV projects including, “The X-Files,” his own show that was a spinoff of X-Files - “Millennium.” And, let’s not forget his memorable performances in the “Alien” franchise, “Near Dark,” “The Terminator” and that little scifi pic from Steven Spielberg called “Close Encounters of the Third Kind.” One quick note - Michael Bay is thinking of doing a remake of “Near Dark” and if he is smart, his people should have gotten Lance on the phone - like, yesterday!

The veteran actor has starred or been featured in nearly 125 films, TV roles, voice work on animation and video games and is acknowledged to be one of the most sought after character actors in Hollywood history. In 2006 he can be seen in ten different projects ranging from voice work on “When a Stranger Calls,” “The Chosen One” and “Superman: Brainiac Attacks” to feature film “Bone Dry” and the next two Pumpkin Head movies “Pumpkinhead: Ashes to Ashes” and the 2007 release of “Pumpkinhead IV: Love Hurts” where he reprises the role of Ed Harley in each.

As far as scifi fans are concerned we’ll pay to see guys like Lance Henriksen, Michael Ironside or Bruce Campbell over the likes of a Tom Cruise any day of the week. Lance - keep at it, your fans are out here eagerly waiting your next project."

When a Stranger Calls featuring Voiceover by Artist/Actor Lance Henriksen as the Stranger
Mood:  a-ok
Topic: Interesting!!!!!!

I enjoyed this movie despite that the negative reviews versus positive views were outweighed 5 to 1.  A lot of the negative reviews make reference to the original movie as though it should be the "baseline." Have they heard the saying "that if you live in the past you will not enjoy the future"?  I don't quite understand most reviewer's biases towards remakes.  Why would we want a remake to be near exactly to the original?  If so, what is the point of the remake?  In my opinion, the movie was very entertaining and had me in suspense when the stranger started calling.  In addition, Actress Camilla Belle, in my opinion, did a fine job carrying a movie as the leading actress in most scences by herself.  There are some things I would not have done having lived in a major city all my life so far.  To illustrate, Rosie the housekeeper would have been on her own.  I would not have gone to the guesthouse looking for Rosie or the son of the people that hired the baby sitter.  In addition, where I live the police would have sent a car out probably during the first call especially with a teenager in a remote unfamiliar location. We pay too much taxes for a somewhat middle class neighorhood to have any lesser service unless the police officers are bored.  Just kidding. Anyway, too much realism in films can deplete the entertainment value.  If films were so true to "real life" who would bother to watch. Besides, we have enough "real life or reality television shows" and we definitely do not need "reality" or "real life" films.  In fact, there are too many "real life" or "reality" television shows.  Unfortunately, they are very popular among the viewers and I must admit entertaining. We could just film ourselves and friends and entertain ourselves including making our own popcorn.  On a serious note the movie is worth a buy and/or rental.  Make up your own mind.  Following will be other reviewer's comments.  By Lafemmenikita07

Interview with Actress Camilla Belle

From Staci Wilson,
Your Guide to Horror & Suspense Movies.

Interview with Actress Camilla Belle
"I hate horror movies!" says Camilla Belle, leading lady of When A Stranger Calls (opening in theaters nationwide today). She says she doesn't get off on horror.
Hopefully, her fans won't feel the same way. This PG-13 remake of a much more mentally brutal film from 1979 qualifies as horror, but Belle and her director, Simon West, went into the project with movies like Wait Until Dark and The Birds strongly in mind.  Belle plays Jill Johnson, a high school track athlete who loves to talk on her cell phone — so much so, that she's exceeded her minutes and she's put on restriction by her dad (Clark Gregg). Worse still, Jill is forced to pay the bill off by babysitting.  Her first gig is for Dr. and Mrs. Mandrakis (Derek de Lint, Kate Jennings Grant) and initially it seems easy as pie.  The flu-addled kids are asleep in a Nyquil-induced stupor, and the big showplace of a house is better than any five-star hotel, complete with a big screen TV, stereo, an atrium, and a fridge full of vittles.  Jill is doing just fine, until she starts getting bizarre, threatening phone calls. "Have you checked the children?" asks the male caller. "Are you sure they're all right?" Alone in the isolated, fishbowl of a house, the young woman begins to freak out……Then the phone rings for real. During our interviews, a telephone in the room started ringing incessantly, sending costar Katie Cassidy and the journalists into fits of laughter. But it's nervous laughter. Cassidy admits that she is somewhat like her character, Tiffany, in that she might do "dumb" things in the face of danger, "I would seriously freak out, too. I'm such a scaredy cat. Especially like… we shot it in the woods, and were hearing noises. I would freak out. I would like try to get hold of somebody on my cell phone. I'd be like, 'Come and get me. I'm so scared!' I might start crying, like Tiffany does."
Belle says that she had a few tricks up her mental sleeve to help her get into character. "At first it was a bit difficult to try to get into that, and to realize what I had to do to get myself to that point. I had to come up with sort of visuals in my head to make myself scared and whatnot. Before I did the film, I saw the old classics by Hitchcock and things like Rosemary's Baby and The Shining.
"Jack Nicholson really did become The Stranger for me. I would get his DVD box in my trailer and stare at it for a really long time and think, 'Ok, that's it'. Then I would run to the set and get ready for the scene. I did things like that to pump myself up. "I point out to Belle that there's almost a 'Shining moment' in When A Stranger Calls. "I know," she laughs. "I felt like I needed to get my knife, you know, and start screaming on the set. We were all kind of joking around about that, that day. "While Belle admits she never did baby-sit in real life, Cassidy has. Cassidy, obviously no stranger to urban legends surrounding the job, always used the buddy system. "I used to baby-sit but never by myself. I always brought a friend with me, one of my girlfriends, and we'd baby-sit together. Because it was scary. It freaked me out to be in the house like that, watching the kids. "Both young actresses say that above all else, the script and the director was the deciding factor (none of them, not even West, have seen the 1979 original). "The way the script was written was really cool," says Cassidy. "I like the idea that they used the first 20 minutes of the original and made it into a whole film. [My character is a new invention, but] she is a fun character. The fact that Simon West was directing, that was a big bonus. So those things really made me want to do it. "But will audiences want to see it? In two days' time, Monday's box office report will tell.”

When a Stranger Calls, April 12, 2006
Reviewer:    speed_on_wheelz I was very disappointed with this movie. I thought it was gonna be way better. I read numerous reviews saying bad things about the film, but I didn't think anything of it. I thought they were just poking fun. This movie is basically about a young girl by the name of Jill Johnson (Camilla Belle) who baby-sits for the Mandrakis' one night while they go out. The Mandrakis' live in a huge house. Every room is big; the closet, the bedrooms, everything. One is bound to get lost in a house that big. It's not until the middle of the film that the stranger calls, harassing poor Jill. He asks if she's `checked the children'. He only asks this once or twice during the film. When the stranger finally comes to the house, he wants to kill the babysitter, and eventually later the children. It's so stupid, because the stranger doesn't even want anything. It would have made more sense if (for example) Jill's father put the stranger in jail for whatever reason, and now he's out wanting revenge. That would have made more sense and make the story more interesting. But no, this guy is just sick in the head. I found this movie scary, but then again, I'd be scared too if I was alone in a mansion of a house.

Tense from start to finish..., February 6, 2006
Reviewer:    Damian "The Dark One is I" (TX) I have to say I had my doubts walking into this film. First off it only recieved a PG-13 rating and with flops like Cry_Wolf, you know, your just a litty weary. Don't be. From the opening frames this movie ellicits suspence higher than a lot of movies I've seen lately. The film revolves around Jill Johnson (Camilla Belle), a young high schooler who just got grounded for going over her cell phone minutes and is reduced to babysitting in order to pay the bill off. This also means that her cell phone has been turned off and she has no car. That means her father has to drive her out to the middle of nowhere so she can babysit for a doctor and his wife. So when she starts to get weird calls from a man she at first thinks it's her ex-boyfriend, and for a time she's half right since he's pranked her as well. But as the calls come in more frequently and it becomes apparent that he's watching her somehow she gets to police involved and they in turn tell her that the calls are coming from inside the house. From that point on the film takes a turn to the cat and mouse hide and stay hidden run and run fast type film and it delivers enough chills and thrills to satisfy the scarymoviejunkie. What I appreciated about this film is they used the old Hitchcock type method of letting the real thrills take more of a mental approach, relying on real intensity rather than gore for scares and it works...really works! I'd recomend this movie because it's intense and it's realistic...it could really happen and that makes the scares all the more real. I loved it, shockingly, and I really think a lot of people will enjoy this thrill ride from start to finish. Brilliant!

Have You Checked The Maid?, September 17, 2006
Reviewer:    K. Fontenot "Prairie Cajun" (Southwest Louisiana)
"When A Stranger Calls" is a slowly-paced, somewhat boring remake of another film from many years ago. I saw the original, but it's been so long ago that I don't remember how good it was. In this version, young Jill (Camilla Bell) is grounded for going over on her cellphone minutes. She's also forced to pay the bill. How does she do that? She gets a job babysitting in the middle of the woods and is driven there by her father who has lost all trust in her. She begins getting prank calls, starts hearing noises, and can't get any help from the police.

The movie has quite a few shortcomings. First, the pacing is just too slow. The entire film is used to build tension. That's understandable, but it's executed very slowly and you eventually just want things to either heat up or end. Secondly, the music is overused in this film. It's tension building from the opening credits and it gets louder and faster at some of the most inappropriate times, such as when the flames of the fireplace kick on when the young heroine tries to turn on the TV. Thirdly, why do people need to hire a babysitter when there's a live-in maid on the premises? I understand that she sometimes leaves to check on her mother, but couldn't she just call her on this particular night? Finally, when the killer does make his presence known, he's man-handled pretty well by young, teenaged Jill while she's trying to escape with the kids.

I don't have any complaints with the casting of this film. Camilla Belle (Jill) and her two friends (Tessa Thompson and Katie Cassidy) do an excellent job as teeny-boppers. It also doesn't hurt that they are easy on the eyes. Lance Henriksen and Tommy Flanagan do a Darth Vader turn as the voice and body respectively of the Stranger. It probably would have been just fine if Henriksen took on the whole role because he's always been good in creepy flicks. Flanagan does well, but he has absolutely no lines in this film. All he has to do is chase Jill and stare at her sinisterly. The children have minimal lines, reduced to doing nothing but screaming, hiding, and having looks of sheer terror on their faces, but they are pretty good at doing that. The rest of the cast was pretty decent, but there weren't many people needed for a film which takes place almost entirely inside of a house.

The house itself is a sight to see. It's very big, has auto on/off lighting (which is dandy to build suspense), a bird and fish sanctuary with misting spray (another dandy suspense builder), and a few ghastly statues (yet another convenient suspense builder). Special effects are sparse (unless you consider the misting spray a special effect), but that's refreshing to see in a film these days.

Overall, this flick is a decent one-time viewer. I would be hesitant to tell you to buy this film since I don't see much of a reason to watch it multiple times. There are a few deleted scenes and the standard mini-documentary that's included on every other DVD, but nothing too amazing to look at. I would add that this film is the perfect young teen thriller for Halloween, since there's no sex, little language, and no gore whatsoever.

tense from beginning. . .untill the end, September 6, 2006
Reviewer:    Nathan Porrata "THE MAN" (Crestview Florada U.S.A) -
When a stranger calls is one of the scariest movies I have ever seen. . .until the end. The movie is about Jill, a high school student who takes a baby sting job somewhere in the middle of nowhere in a really big house which is, needless to say, a very bad idea. At first it is the easiest thing in the world. The fridge is stocked, there are plenty of movies, and the kids are all asleep. But than she starts getting dozens, and I do mean dozens, of calls from just about everyone she knows. But than she gets a call from a deranged sicko who wants to kill her for some reason. Don't ask me why, he just does. She starts to freak out and calls the police who send a police car but it will be 20 minutes until it arrives. But then she gets a call from the police who tell her the killer is inside the house. That is where the scares begin. Every dark hallway becomes a hiding place for the killer. Ironically the minute the killer actually shows up, the movie stops being scary and starts being nothing but an old fashioned slasher flick without the blood. He has lost the only thing he had going for him, his stealth. The more we see of him, the less he scares us.

Good for Home Decorating Ideas, that's about all, August 30, 2006
Reviewer:    Jerry C (Boston, MA.) It is real easy to sum up this remake of the genuinely tense 1979 classic.

It is worth the $3.99 I paid to see it on Pay Per View for the Frank Lloyd Wright inspired house. That house is all there is to redeem this garbage.

I gave this one star only because I there is no option for no or negative stars which this deserved.

Save your money and buy the original.

Solid Remake, August 29, 2006
Reviewer:    Joshua Koppel (Chicago, IL United States) gruesome murder provides a prologue as well as heavy foreshadowing in this tense remake. A teen has been grounded for using to many cell phone minutes so when she gets a babysitting gig she is driven by her father. The house is way out in the middle of nowhere and very elaborate. The house is almost like another character. The evening starts okay despite all of her friends being at a highschool version of Burning Man and a betrayal by one of her friends. But then the calls begin. At first they are no too bad but they quickly escalate and then tension rises.

The creep factor quickly climbs as things seem to begin to get out of control. Then it becomes obvious that this is not just a prank and that lives are on the line. Then tension and action quickly mount until the final scenes of the movie.

Much like the original Halloween, this movie relies heavily upon atmosphere, suspense and audience expectation. One has to wonder at the end if there will be any sort of sequel as we wonder what will happen to the teen now that everything is over. If you like your movies packed with high levels of tension and suspense and not just endless gore and violence, than you will get a real kick out of this one. Check it out.

The Meeting of Artists at Monster Mania 5 - Actor/Artist Lance Henriksen and Artist Paulina Stuckey-Cassidy
Mood:  special
Topic: Artistic Environment
Hi,  I am "Rather Tenacious" for La Femme Nikita07 and Associates.  I plan on telling you about two beautiful "human beings" I met this year through blogging, attending conventions, and hanging out with La Femme Nikita07 and Associates.  They are two very special people with hearts more precious than "Silver and Gold".  I hope the rest of 2006 continues to bring such spirted people in my life and yours if even a second and/or for a little while. Besides that's what creates memories.

Introducing Artist Paulina Stuckey-Cassidy Artist of the Restless Moon Gallery and Actor/Artist Lance Henriksen.

 The Meeting of Professional Artists

Actor/Artist Lance Henriksen thought he was meeting another fan of his lifetime achievements as an actor.  However, he did not know that the fan was also a professional artist.  Whereas Lance uses his artistic talents on platters and tiles and the old "the silver screen".   Artist Paulina Stuckey-Cassidy uses paper and other related tools.  I have seen both of these artist's work and felt the hearts of their souls through their work and it was and is a beautiful experience.  I am an artist in other expressions; however, my recognition for artists and the opportunity to see and feel their work is like a search for scents of my flavorite flowers and herbs found in the wild and after finding them I collapse within the sweet essence of their beauty and aroma and allow my mind to temporarily take me away from the troubles of this world and think only "happy thoughts" as the character "Peter Pan" did in the movie "Hook" starring Actor Robin Williams so "Peter" could fly again.  There is nothing like wild Sage and Lavendar growing alone the hillside untouched by most human beings.

According to Sources AVP2 will not have any of the Original Cast
Mood:  d'oh
Topic: Unbelievable!!!!!!!!

Can you believe this Super Fans?  We wanted AVP2 and now it is suppose to take place in some weird timezone on earth with none of the original cast including Lance Henrisken even those he was killed in the movie AVP.  I at least expected the character of Alex to re-appear.  I heard that actress Sanaa Lathan had signed a two picture deal during negotiations of the offer for AVP.  This is not worth the wait!!!!!!  What do you think?                  By Lafemmenikita07

About Sasquatch Mountain starring Lance Henriksen and Michael Worth
Mood:  bright
Topic: Unbelievable!!!!!!!!
Sasquatch Mountain is one of the best modern day versions of Bigfoot I have ever seen.  The irony of my vision for a good plot and what I wrote in the blog on July 12, 2006 is so close to Michael Worth's vision that it is scary.  People have told me that now that I have decided to stop suppressing my artistic side and letting it go that they saw, seen, and heard some amazing talented things come from me that they did not know I was capable of doing.  However, I just thought they were being nice until now.  Wow, I would really like to meet Michael Worth just to tell him about this whole thing. For any "doubting thomases" I will place my right hand on the bible that I knew nothing about the writer's vision for this movie.
Below is an excerpt from an earlier blog.  The ideas behind the story I wrote below compared to Michael Worth's vision are amazing.  In addition, it wasn't until the ending of the movie that I realized that the movie had similarities to what I would like to see in a Bigfoot movie if I was involved in the production.  Before the ending I was into the movie so much I did not think about what I had written in the blog in July 2006.  Besides I had moved on to keeping track of the other projects of Lance Henriksen's as part of the mission and vision of this blog and that is to document and share the lifetime achievements of Lance Henriksen while Lance is alive.  Too many tributes to people are done when a person has left this earth and/or has been diagnosed with some deathly disease.  Well, I prefer doing this while the person is alive to know it and believe it.  I am not stating that Lance Henriksen knows about or has read this blog.  Indirectly, I believe as I do my small part to assist fans in becoming more aware of Lance's achievements and support his projects by attending conventions to see him, buying or renting his DVDs, and all the praise the fans are sending his way out there then I know that just a little bit of what I do may reach Lance.

This way of thinking applies to everybody.  We all have something special about us no matter what "naysayers" have said and/or written about us.

Well, you are probably expecting a review of the movie now that I have seen it.  I am going to wait for some encore presentations of the movie so other fans may have a chance to see the movie without the knowledge of spoilers from me.  By Lafemmenikita07 9/9/2006

Super Fan Comment Written July 12, 2006

I can not speak for the rest of the people. However let me tell you a childhood secret. I have always wondered whether a bigfoot exist. Since a child I believe I have seen approximately 95% of all bigfoot movies. I do not understand why "man's" depiction of Bigfoot is that he is bad, mean, and an animal that just kills humans just because. Perhaps Bigfoot kills because he is defending himself. In my opinion, every living thing has the instinct to survive especially when perceived threaten. Why doesn't somebody dare to be different and show Bigfoot differently? Considering the evolutionary chain of events Bigfoot should have evolved in intelligence and behavior. I mean what is the point here. Are they trying to say bigfoot is part animal and man. I would like to see a writer take on this challenge and show man and bigfoot meeting without all that killing. Over time the Predator has killed a lot of human beings; however, remember, the predator did not kill the sole survivor left in AVP. The Predator made a choice. By Lafemmenikita07

Box Office Blues
Mood:  d'oh
Topic: By the Fans From the Fans

This article by Scott Mantz has some good points about low turn out to the movies.  However, in my opinion, it is a lot of reasons the turnout is low that may not have  anything to do with whether a movie is good and/or the acting is great.  Based on the people I am around, the budgets are limited for entertainment and the movies have to compete with other forms of entertainment including money for vacations.  To illustrate I attended approximately 4 special exhibits showing within the last year and a half at the Los Angeles Musuem of Art (LAMA) this year such as: (1) The Phillips Collection, (2) King Tut, (3) Cezanne and Pissaro and (4) Van Gogh.  I enjoyed myself so much that I continue to be a member and I have not be disappointed with a show yet.

  "2005: Box Office Blues"

by Scott Mantz

Here’s a scary thought – the first decade of the new Millennium is now half over.

And wow, did 2005 fly by, or what?  It feels like just yesterday that I was looking back on 2004, when box office grosses were at an all-time high, thanks to surefire hits like “Spider-Man 2” and “Shrek 2” and trend-bucking flukes like “Fahrenheit 9/11” and “The Passion of the Christ.”

But as the saying goes, what a difference a year can make, as those in the movie business are now asking themselves, “where were those flukes when we needed them?”  That’s because despite top-grossers like “Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith,” “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” and “War of the Worlds,” there were no real flukes.

As a result, overall box office receipts for 2005 will total around $8.75 billion – that’s down 5% compared to last year’s record-breaking total of $9.2 billion.  When you factor in higher ticket prices, actual admissions were down by an even bigger margin – a whopping 11% to 1.32 billion compared to 1.48 billion last year.  And since 527 new films were released in 2005 compared to 507 in 2004, that means more films were released to less business.

So what happened?  Hollywood movies were just as good (or as bad) as they were every year, so why weren’t people flocking to the multiplexes to see them – especially now that most theaters are equipped with stadium seating and state-of-the-art technology?

In trying to answer those questions, industry pundits sure had a lot to write about.  And by the middle of the summer, when weekend box office tallies were down for 19 straight weeks compared to the same frames last year, everyone was doing just that.

And many of their conclusions were fairly justified, especially when it came to the fact that it’s just too damned expensive to go to the movies these days.  Tickets cost too much.  Food concessions cost even more.  And then there’s parking, which can be a chore in itself.  And even if you make it inside the theater, there’s always the chance that some pinhead forgot turn off his cell phone.

So why not stay at home?  It’s cheaper.  It’s more comfortable.  And if you wait long enough, that big movie you missed in theaters 3 months ago probably just came out on DVD anyway.  And you can always schedule watching that DVD around your other diversions – like checking your email, surfing the web, downloading music onto your iPod or playing videogames.

Of course, there’s the ultimate conclusion, and it’s one that the Hollywood studios could no longer ignore – that their movies just weren’t any good.  That would certainly explain why a number of high-profile wannabe blockbusters like “Stealth,” “The Island” and “XXX: State of the Union” tanked at the box office.  After all, no amount of studio marketing can save a bad movie, and in the end, moviegoers know a stinker when they see one.

Do these points make sense?  Certainly.  But is it too soon to over-react and throw in the towel on the moviegoing experience?  Absolutely.

While the downturn at the box office is definitely cause for concern, it’s too early to say whether or not it will get worse or if it’s all part of a cycle that will correct itself.  I suppose the only way to know for sure is to give it another year.  Who knows, the box office in 2006 could reach record highs, in which case everyone will forget that the problems of 2005 even existed.  And if that doesn’t happen, then the movie studios will know that they have a real problem on their hands.

But through all the doom and gloom at the box office, 2005 still ended up being a banner year for quality films – especially towards the end of the year.  So here now are my favorite movies of 2005…"
